The Writers:

Shane Allison – Tallahassee, Florida. Shane’s work has been published in a number of "off the wall" journals, magazines and zines, including Eratica and Devil Blossums. He has work forthcoming in Black Spring Review, Struggle, and Wild Word.

D.E. Brown – Indianapolis, Indiana. D.E. Brown completed her doctoral work at Colorado State University in 1995. Although she is a published scientist, this is her first poetry publication.

Kendal Ericsen
– LaPorte, Colorado. Kendal is a travel agent who enjoys the outdoors, reading, and writing. He is active in the gay civil rights movement but feels that the most powerful element of change is person to person. He hopes his writing will add to this effort.

Lynn Kaiser – Fort Collins, Colorado. Lynn grew up in Wales and Copenhagen and lived in Hawaii prior to moving to Fort Collins. She has been writing for twenty years but has only recently begun to submit her work for publication. She is happiest wandering along a beach, notepad in hand. This is Lynn’s first poetry publication.

J.R. Kangas – Flint, Michigan. J.R. Kangas works as a librarian and musician. His work has appeared in a wide range of publications including The James White Review, New Letters, Poet & Critic, The South Carolina Review, and The New York Quarterly.

Miriam R. Sachs Martin – San Jose, California. Miriam’s work has been published in Free To Be, Paginas Tortilleras, and The Santa Clara Review, anthologized in Latino Heretics and New to North America. She has work forthcoming in Las Sinverguenzas and TNT Magazine. Her piece, "Fishbowl," received the Editors’ Choice Award in our premier issue.

Christine McGuire – Tucson, Arizona. Chris has a Masters in Counseling and is a survivor of abuse. She has been writing for seven years and says it helps her heal. This is her first publication. Her poem, "No More Magic," has been awarded this issue’s Editors’ Choice Award.



The Artists:

Hugo Anderson – Denver, Colorado. Hugo is a full-time artist – painter and sculptor. He incorporates a variety of mediums in his work. Hugo’s work has been exhibited in galleries across the United States.

Kurt Joachim von Behrmann – Scottsdale, Arizona. Kurt has an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan and a BFA, Magna Cum Laude, from the Art Academy of Cincinnati, Ohio. He has been an assistant professor of art, a director, and an arts writer and book reviewer in many publications. Kurt has traveled extensively and works to express ideas, feelings and sensations.

Greg Carmean – Toronto, Canada. Greg studied fine art at the University of Florida in Tampa. He is a painter of the figure using acrylic and has recently incorporated abstraction into his work. Greg recently completed an invitational exhibit in Toronto, Canada.

Lorraine DarConte – Tucson, Arizona. Lorraine studied photography with Arthur Leipzig at C.W. Post University in Long Island. DarConte is a freelance writer and photographer whose work has appeared in numerous publications including, Modern Photography, Studio Photography and Design, The Rangefinder Magazine, Photographic Trade News, Newsday, and the Tucson Official Visitor’s Guide.

Ross Milliken – Fort Collins, Colorado. Ross has had photographs published in the American Cowboy Magazine and the Casper Star Tribune. He has exhibited in the Illustrated Light Gallery and is working on large scale panoramic black and white landscapes.

Ronda Stone – Loveland, Colorado. Art Editor of Gertrude. Ronda was accepted into the juried 1999 Biennial exhibit at the Tucson Museum of Art. The photographs accepted are from her series, A Walk Through Diversity. Arizona Commission on the Arts has contracted to tour the juried show around the United States for 2 years. Ronda is moving her work toward the more abstract form of figure incorporating the use of large grain film.
