Valerie Wetlaufer

Valerie WetlauferValerie Wetlaufer is a birth doula and poet. Born and raised in Iowa, she has since livedin Vermont, Paris, Florida and Utah. Currently she lives in Salt Lake City, where she is adoctoral fellow in English and Creative Writing at the University of Utah. She also holdsan MFA in Creative Writing from Florida State University and an MA in Teaching from Bennington College. Her poems have appeared in Drunken Boat, Main Street Rag, PANKMagazine, Word Riot and Bloom. She is a 2010 Lambda Literary Foundation Emerging WritersRetreat Fellow. Her first chapbook Scent of Shatter was published in early 2010 by Grey BookPress.

Kristin Steele

Kristin SteeleKristin Steele is a Portland-based writer with an MFA in creative writing from Goddard College. She teaches playwriting to at-risk youth and volunteers as acommunity writing facilitator, leading adult workshops in domestic violenceshelters, the county jail, public housing projects, and community spaces. Steele’s stage work has been produced in Los Angeles and workshopped in New York. Her fiction and non-fiction works have appeared in magazines, newspapers, and literary anthologies. She is currently at work on a novel and collaborating on a rock musical.

Michael Montlack

Michael MontlackMichael Montlack's work has appeared in Cimarron Review, New York Quarterly, Poet Lore, Mipoesias, Bloom, Cream City Review, Court Green, and other journals. In 2006, he was a Pushcart Prize Nominee, a Frank O'Hara Award Finalist, and the recipient of two residencies: Soul Mountain Retreat (Connecticut) and Ucross (Wyoming). Currently he is editing an anthology: Diva Complex (Gay Men on Their Divas). He lives in New York City, where he teaches at Berkeley College and acts as Associate Editor for Mudfish.

James Crews

James Crews grew up in Saint Louis, Missouri and holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His work has appeared most recently in Columbia, Prairie Schooner, Crab Orchard Review, and Court Green. Another chapbook, One Hundred Small Yellow Envelopes, based on the life and work of artist, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, is due out later this year from Parallel Press. He currently teaches English and Writing at Eastern Oregon University and enjoys tracking the deer that nightly invade his backyard.

Jan Steckel

Jan Steckel Jan Steckel, author of the critically acclaimed poetry chapbook The Underwater Hospital (Zeitgeist Press, 2006), is a bisexual activist and a Harvard- and Yale-trained former pediatrician. Over a hundred of her short stories, poems and nonfiction pieces have appeared in publications such as Scholastic Magazine, Yale Medicine, Red Rock Review, Harrington Lesbian Literary Review, and Redwood Coast Review. Her work has won numerous awards and has been widely reprinted and anthologized. She is a founding member of the queer women’s writing collective Woman-Stirred. Her writing has been nominated twice for a Pushcart Prize.

She served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic and cared for Spanish-speaking families in California at a county hospital and at a large HMO. In 2001 she left the practice of medicine to write full-time. She lives in Oakland, California with her husband Hew Wolff, host of Berkeley BiFriendly.
