for my friend, Genevieve

Coyotes

If the stars are the hunters we imagine them to be 
then they are coyotes,
short radio yips, pulsars, eyes of honey--
and they will pierce you as they did me the time 
I turned around and there they were: 
standing, hovering, their necks moving closer 
to the ground, 
so as to see me in a way that cut, reduced me 
to a pocket life, a want for wild, and upon arrival
a longing for, I can’t say--

Hannah Larrabee’s Wonder Tissue won the Airlie Press Poetry Prize and was shortlisted for a Massachusetts Book Award. She has chapbooks out from Seven Kitchens Press and Nixes Mate. Hannah was selected by NASA to write poetry for the James Webb Space Telescope program, and she is a recipient of an Arctic Circle Residency.
