Hello Darling Readers-
I’m living in Switzerland half of the time now and there is a street magazine here called 20 MINUTEN, which means “twenty minutes” and is designed to be read in, well, you get it… The best of the best in one sitting.
This is a concept we employ here (though maybe more like an hour) by choosing a few pieces of writing each issue, peppered possibly with Q&As or book excerpts or entries in our Lineage series. For Issue 28, we chatted with cover artist Ria Brodell, who also provided us with two astounding stories of butches of years past that inspired BUTCH HEROES—Brodell's book of illustrations and stories, to go alongside our favorite writing selections (some by this year's chapbook finalists).
The start of a new year also brings change. As we start 2019, we say goodbye to our Fiction Editor, Cooper Lee Bombadier, who is knee-deep in his writing life. Thanks for the last year, Cooper! We're now going through selections now for a new Fiction Editor and will announce them in our next eNews--you can sign up here (scroll to the bottom). Meanwhile, we've opened fiction submissions so send us yer best stuff!
To my delight, Kate Carroll de Gutes, our CNF editor, and Stephanie Glazier, our poetry editor, and Harker Jones, our Book Review editor, are on for 2019. Kate, Stephanie, and I will all be at AWP, so if you are going, stop by our event and introduce yourselves! Hopefully the new Fiction Editor will be there, too.
I wish you all joy, good reads, and giant wooden cows (see above) in your 2019!
tammy
